Start with USPS through EasyShippingX

Available workflow

Use the Portal, Excel import, or API to compare USPS rates and create labels. EasyShippingX shows the services currently available for the parcel details you enter.

Warehouse and parcel fit

Prepare the origin ZIP, destination area, address type, weight, dimensions, packaging, and contents. Add the relevant details for PO Box, military-mail, and HAZMAT shipments so the right services can be selected.

What to send

Send origin ZIPs, 30–90 days of destination data or representative orders, monthly volume, weight bands, dimensions, and contents. Include PO Box/APO/FPO/DPO shares, HAZMAT, current carrier, tender method, and Portal/Excel/API preference.

Validate a small batch

Confirm service, rates, mailability, pickup or tender location, and cutoff. Pilot physical handoff, the first USPS scan, tracking, delivery, returns, and final billing before scaling with a validated fallback.

What is USPS

USPS is the United States Postal Service, delivering mail and parcels through a national network. For eCommerce, DTC, and 3PL operations, a defining advantage is reach across all 50 states, PO Boxes, military post offices, U.S. territories, and Freely Associated States. USPS is not one economy-parcel product: options range from 1–3-day Priority Mail Express to 2–5-day Ground Advantage and content-restricted Media Mail, each solving a different speed, content, and cost problem.

How ecommerce teams should place USPS in the decision workflow

Filter services by shipment profile before comparing total cost. The profile should include destination type, actual weight, outer dimensions, contents, delivery promise, and any signature or added-insurance need. Preserve rejected services and their reasons during rating so the warehouse can distinguish a higher-priced option from an ineligible one instead of overriding the choice by habit.

When comparing USPS options, enter the origin, destination, address type, weight, dimensions, packaging, and contents. EasyShippingX uses those details to show available services and compare costs. After label creation, keep the physical handoff time and first USPS scan in the shipment record. Explore USPS services · See USPS shipping options.

Decision layerQuestion to answerData to retain
EligibilityDo address, contents, dimensions, and weight fit the service rules?Validation result and rejection reason
PromiseDoes the service fit the delivery expectation shown at checkout?Purchased service and expected-delivery date
CostWhat dimensional, extra-service, or return costs sit beyond postage?Label amount, adjustments, and final charge
ExecutionWho owns induction, pickup, first scan, and escalation?Handoff time, scan events, and resolution notes

After service selection, the warehouse should document the daily induction method. Use the USPS pickup guide for eligibility and exception handling, and the USPS FY2026 Q3 results explainer for network and investment context without treating financial results as service rules.

How to choose among four core services

These four services cover urgent parcels, standard expedited shipping, economy parcels, and eligible media. EasyShippingX shows the available services and prices in the rate result; transit estimates, insurance, and refund terms also vary by destination, mailability, and acceptance time.

Service Published specifications Best-fit shipment
Priority Mail Express 1–3 days; up to 70 lb; tracking included; conditional money-back guarantee to most U.S. addresses and PO Boxes; up to $100 insurance included with most shipments. Time-sensitive parcels that justify the fastest USPS domestic option.
Priority Mail 2–3 days; up to 70 lb; tracking included; up to $100 insurance with most shipments; weight-and-zone and Flat Rate options. Standard eCommerce orders needing faster service without Express-level requirements.
USPS Ground Advantage Expected 2–5 days; 1 oz to 70 lb; tracking included; $100 insurance on eligible shipments; free Package Pickup and Ground Advantage Return available. Cost-sensitive U.S. parcels that can accept 2–5 days; also the primary USPS option for HAZMAT that cannot travel by air.
Media Mail Typically 2–8 business days; up to 70 lb; restricted to qualifying books, recordings, films, and other defined media; not guaranteed. Eligible media contents where speed is secondary and inspection rules are acceptable.

For parcels approaching 70 lb, check shape, dimensions, and contents as well. Priority Mail using your own box generally allows up to 108 inches in combined length and girth; Ground Advantage allows up to 130 inches, while large, nonstandard, or low-density parcels may trigger extra fees or dimensional weight.

What nationwide coverage means in practice

USPS lists Ground Advantage service to all 50 states, U.S. military bases, territories, possessions, and Freely Associated States. USPS Package Services reach every U.S. address, including PO Boxes and military addresses, making USPS especially useful for dispersed destinations, remote residences, and postal-box demand.

Parcels to Alaska, Hawaii, and offshore destinations, plus HAZMAT and live animals, may take longer than the normal Ground Advantage range. APO, FPO, and DPO mail may also require customs forms. Check the destination with USPS ZIP and service-standard tools before showing a delivery date at checkout.

When USPS should not be the only answer

USPS is a strong national baseline but not the automatic best answer for every shipment. Large low-density parcels may trigger dimensional or nonstandard fees; shipments needing scheduled appointments, complex signatures, temperature control, or sizes above USPS limits require other options; and dense metro segments may fit a regional carrier better on total cost or a specific promise. A mature carrier mix keeps USPS reach while testing a second lane on real orders.

Source-backed advantages

  • Comprehensive address reach: residential, commercial, PO Box, military, and territorial destinations reduce address-driven carrier switching.
  • Clear service ladder: Express, Priority, Ground Advantage, and Media Mail map to urgent, faster standard, economy ground, and qualified-media needs.
  • Included eCommerce basics: the three core parcel services include tracking; Ground Advantage and most Priority or Express shipments include up to $100 insurance, subject to eligibility and exclusions.
  • Pickup and returns tools: eligible prepaid parcels can use free Package Pickup, and Ground Advantage offers a business returns service.
  • Simpler surcharge structure in some services: USPS states that Priority Mail has no fuel, residential, rural, or Saturday delivery surcharge.

Pricing logic, packaging, and dimensional weight

Standard Priority Mail and Ground Advantage prices generally depend on weight and zone. Lightweight pieces use ounce tiers, while pieces over 15.999 oz generally round up by whole pounds. Priority Mail also offers USPS Flat Rate packaging when contents fit and the container closes on its normal folds, up to 70 lb.

Actual weight is not the only billing input for large low-density parcels. USPS applies dimensional weight to certain packages over one cubic foot, currently calculating length × width × height divided by 139 and comparing that result with actual weight. Packaging optimization, accurate measurement, and retained dimension evidence can matter more than comparing headline label rates alone.

Using USPS through EasyShippingX

Enter parcel details through the EasyShippingX Portal, Excel import, or API to view USPS rates, create labels, and track billing. Express, Media Mail, HAZMAT, insurance, and extra services each have their own conditions, and the rate and label results are filtered by the shipment details.

How to read label, handoff, and first-scan events

Label Created / USPS Awaiting Item means the label information has been sent. After the parcel is handed to USPS, look for the first physical scan and keep the tender receipt so delayed scans are easier to investigate. See USPS tracking status guidance.

If you use a SCAN Form, manage it in the Portal by shipment date and tender batch. Pickup, counter tender, and consolidated induction each follow their own location and cutoff, so document the selected method in the warehouse’s daily workflow.

Before you start shipping

  1. Run representative orders through rating and compare Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, and the other USPS options returned by the system.
  2. Validate destination type, weight, dimensions, combined length and girth, packaging, and mailability.
  3. Compare postage, DIM weight, nonstandard fees, extra services, insurance, and returns in one total-cost view.
  4. Pilot and reconcile acceptance scan, expected delivery, in-transit events, delivery, returns, and adjustments.
  5. Retest routing and packaging rules after each USPS price or standards change.
